COLOR INTRODUCTION--Software Color
Some software applications let you choose colors from a limited, preset palette. These palettes typically include "basic" colors such as black, white, red, yellow, blue, and green. Some include a wider selection of colors.

Other applications have sophisticated techniques for specifying colors. The HSB method specifies colors according to their Hue, Saturation, and Brightness. The RGB method specifies colors as percentages of Red, Green, and Blue. The CMYK method specifies colors as percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK.

For example, the shade of this magenta background can be created as follows:
  • HSB: Hue 300%, Saturation 100%, Brightness 100%
  • RGB: Red 100%, Green 0%, Blue 100%
  • CYMK: Cyan 0%, Magenta 100%, Yellow 0%, Black 0%

Regardless of the method you use to specify colors in an application, your unit will represent that color as a combination of cyan, magenta, and yellow inks. (When using a Color BJ cartridge, your unit prints black by combining cyan, magenta, and yellow.)
